Hello All,
I have started writing my thesis at a large enterprise (>10000) in their SAP BI department and am currently writing my master thesis on the topic SAP BW on SAP HANA. I have completed the theoretical framework part explaining all the technologies used like BI, BWA, HANA and other broader topics such as datawarehousing in general etc.
The problem now is the part of applicability where i show -> if and how does HANA suit our environment(or not). This is something where i am stuck as to how i proceed further.
It would be of immense help if i got some ideas and approaches from you guys.
P.S - The company does not have HANA yet and is using BWA.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Joe,
I would seperate the applicability of SAP BW on HANA by technical and functional purpose. For each one an as-is analysis with BW and BWA (current situation) followed by an analysis how it would be with BW on HANA. After all you should be able to answer the question "if and how does HANA suit our environment".
A few technical examples. Maybe the night is too short to load all the data in proper time, or the workload increases as it would be a problem in near future (cause BWA only accelerates reporting and not DSO activations and transfering data from A to B within BW). Or you have a complex LSA in your current BW and you might reduce it with the LSA++ concept for SAP BW on HANA.
Or few functional examples. (Key) user demand more complexitiy in reporting which might be possible with greater table joins within SAP HANA (not only best practice UNIONS in MutliProvider). Or (key) user might prefer the new SAPUI5 which might be possible by developing apps directly on HANA (beware: you need more than a runtime license for SAP BW on HANA). This might be the case for innovative companies.
This is only my opinion. Maybe it helps a little. Good luck with your thesis.
Marcel
