Hi!

When I start a hana backup, there will be a savepoint first. After the Savepoint, backup of data from persistent storage (disk) will complete and thereafter there will be backup of Log volume happen.

What is backed up from Log volume:

1. Does it  backup only these log files or segments that are since the last save point completed before backup ?

2. Or does is backup complete Log volume ?

Also, is is necessary or useful to do a “ALTER SYSTEM RECLAIM LOG” before or after every backup or periodically

Sanjoy,

Backup process will backup all the log files in-order to recover to a particular point in time. Otherwise you can't restore to particular point in time.

After the log backup is successful, it will delete all the successful log files. So no need torun command for reclaiming the log space.

Thanks

Suresh.
