BW Impacts - Activating Business Function /IMO/BW_CONTENT

Former Member

Hi all,

I'm reading the documentation on enabling the SAP standard architecture BW on HANA for SD module.

Sales and Distribution (SAP HANA-Optimized) - SAP HANA-Optimized BI Content - SAP Library

To activate the standard Business Content providers through the activation of a Business Function /IMO/BW_CONTENT is required.

To activate this Business Function'm reading the following documentation:

Switching on Business Functions (SAP Library - Switch Framework)

My doubt is:

What is the impact on my environment if I do the activation of Business Function / IMO / BW_CONTENT?

What happens to other providers who are already active and running in production?

Thanks all

Hi Vitor Eduardo,

thanks for your question!

We provided you with an answer via a different communication channel in the meantime, but since this question seems to be relevant also to others and I just found your question on this platform, here the answer:

The business function switch /IMO/BW_CONTENT has no impact on any active BW objects / providers in your BW system.

The business function switch has only one impact:
- Without the switch /IMO/BW_CONTENT being turned on in your BW system you will not be able to see any of the new content objects (D version) in transaction code RSORBCT which is the transaction to collect and activate SAP delivered BI Content.

You should only turn on this switch, when your BW is running on HANA DB.

The new SAP HANA-optimized content consists of new BW objects such as DSOs, 7.0 InfoSources, Transformations, MultiProviders, Queries following the namespace /IMO/*. As we use this new namespace no former shipped BW objects are changed. In addition there are also some HANA Information Models and Procedures provided as part of the content.

If you want to use the new content objects, you will need to switch on the business function, collect and install the new BI Content objects via transaction RSORBCT. This will copy the delivered BW content objects ('D' version) into an active version ('A' version)) - as you may know it, if you have dealed with BI Content before.

You can find more information about the new SAP HANA-optimized BI Content in the SAP online documentation.

Here a link to the most recent documentation (BI Content 7.57 SP 0 for BW 7.4 SP5):

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw74/helpdata/en/63/090651de86d406e10000000a44176d/frameset.htm

In case your BW is on 7.31 (BI Content 7.47), you can find the relevant online documentation here:

SAP HANA-Optimized BI Content - SAP Library

Best regards,

Andreas
