My organisation has five different industries.
For each industries we have separate SAP Landscape (like CRM,ECC,APO to BW).
So we have 5 different BW systems.
Is it possible to have Single HANA platform to support these 5 BW systems or we need 5 HANA system one each for 5 BW system
Could you explain these in detail.
You can use any one of the following scenarios ---
Source systems are connected to separate HANA schema on the same HANA System
Source systems are connected to separate HANA systems. Schema name can be equal or different
Source systems are connected to same HANA system and also the same schema
PG No 12 in below document.
Multiple BW to one BW is where you want to start
1. Multiple Standards, processes and methodologies
2. Multiple definitions of KPI's
3. Multiple models
1. EDW - Not very successful
2. FEDW - Highly recommended
What does FEDW provide
a. 100% centralized standard and processes
b. 100% local independence to developments and SLA's
1 step at a time
- Auto Modeling
- Auto Federation
- Auto System mergers
Merge system 1 to 2 using FEDW guidelines
Hope that helps
Federated EDW allows for the following
1. 100% centralized control (something that EDW desires)
2. 100% local development and change management capabilities (EW does not enable this)
Yes we have implemented it is some major SAP clients
a. The first is a german global company requiring the above two criterias , the second was critical to their success
b. the Second is a global chemicals company based out of the US with the same requirements
FEDW also enables architects and modelers to seperate their CRM, APO which was the original string in this discussion.
This is a propriatary methodology that has been successfully deployed with over 5 global customers very successfully.
Not sure if that answrs your question but hope it kind of does.
Step 1 is to commence on a system cleanup of each BW environment, i.e. remove redundancies, duplicates and dead elements
this can be accomplished via automation or manually. we recommend automation
prior to the next step you need to make sure all BW systems are on the same version
step 2 commence on system consolidation
this is merging 2 BW systems into 1
Step 3 will be to merge the merged BW systems into the next on and so-on till all the BW systems are merged into a single environment
Then upgrade to BW 7.3 SP9 f not on this version
then migrate to HANA - this is possibly the simplest step of all
Hope that works
We have implemented single FEDW BW environments for meeting
1. Multiple SBU (Strategic Business Units)
2. Application components (ECC, APO, etc)
3. with 100% global conformity to standards and processes
4. and 100% independence by authorized requirements, i.e. SBU and or application areas)
5. This allows for rapid seperation of
5.1 old SBU's in areas like disinvesting or selling off an SBU
5.2 Incuding new acquisitions without disturbing the existing BW landscape
6. This architcture also applies to HANA
